Stan Allen, a Technical Project Manager in Technology Infrastructure at Wells Fargo, was recently named a 2017 Volunteer Service Award winner. To the students on our Albion campus, though, he’s known simply as “Mr. Wells Fargo,” as referenced in numerous thank you notes received from staff and students. Stan and his wife, Patricia, have supported our organization for many years, and Stan currently serves as a member of our Board of Trustees and the president of our Alumni Association.
Erick Stewart has a long history with Starr Commonwealth. The Stewart family has supported Starr for over 25 years, beginning with his mother, Clara Stewart, serving on our Board of Trustees. “My mother’s enthusiasm and direction was rooted in our family’s deep commitment to youth, education, and vulnerable population support,” says Stewart. “My parents believe that all children, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status have the right to be loved and supported in life.”
Patricia Schaefer has been giving to Starr Commonwealth for so many years even she does not remember the catalyst behind it. “I don’t even remember – it could have been a presentation or a mailing – I’ve just plain forgotten how it all started!” she said on a recent visit.
As a lifelong resident of Albion, Shane Williamson has grown up knowing about Starr Commonwealth. In 2014, he became the Director of Grants Management for Starr’s Advancement team, and began working with major foundations and individual donors to spread the news of Starr’s mission. “Working in Advancement was never part of my career plan,” Shane has said. “I didn’t grow up thinking; ‘I want to be a fundraiser’, but having found my career and home in this work, it calls me to do just as I ask so many to do in this field: To give. I feel good doing it each and every time.”
Created as a social media movement, Giving Tuesday has become a global day of giving – a way for everyone to show how much they care for the nonprofits near and dear to their hearts. In conjunction with a donation of time and money, nonprofit supporters are able to spread the word about their organizations through social media posts and hashtags. This year, Giving Tuesday will be on November 29, 2016.
