Helping Children After Trauma with Brave Bart

Brave BartWe are all aware of the recent tragedies that have befallen our country in the past months: shootings, wildfires, and multiple hurricanes have caused devastation to those who live in the affected areas.

This devastation is not solely felt by adults. So many children have lost their homes, lost family members, or are living in a state of uncertainty for an extended period of time. But, in the words of the immortal Mr. Rogers, “look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

They Call Him “Mr. Wells Fargo”

Stan Allen, a Technical Project Manager in Technology Infrastructure at Wells Fargo, was recently named a 2017 Volunteer Service Award winner.  To the students on our Albion campus, though, he’s known simply as “Mr. Wells Fargo,” as referenced in numerous thank you notes received from staff and students. Stan and his wife, Patricia, have supported our organization for many years, and Stan currently serves as a member of our Board of Trustees and the president of our Alumni Association.

Erick Stewart has a long history with Starr Commonwealth. The Stewart family has supported Starr for over 25 years, beginning with his mother, Clara Stewart, serving on our Board of Trustees. “My mother’s enthusiasm and direction was rooted in our family’s deep commitment to youth, education, and vulnerable population support,” says Stewart.  “My parents believe that all children, regardless of race, gender, or socioeconomic status have the right to be loved and supported in life.”
