On June 16th, Starr Detroit Academy
(SDA), a charter school located in Harper Woods, Mich., celebrated the promotion of its first 8th grade class. This school opened in 2012 as a K-5 school, and has added a grade level each year, expanding to encompass all students under high school level. With a focus on higher education and emotional stability, Starr Detroit Academy celebrates those students who show their dedication to learning.
At a beautiful ceremony – held in Grace Community Church, just a short distance from the school – 42 eighth graders were recognized, including:
- 11 students who had been attending SDA for four years,
- 13 students who had been at the academy for three years, and
- 18 students who had attended for two years.

Upon leaving Starr Detroit Academy, the students have been supported by our staff to find good high schools and to make a smooth transition. We wish them all the very best for the future, and have offered their families information on a possible Starr scholarship
for when the time comes for them to consider attending college.
