Starr’s third annual Art of Resilience Summer Youth Festival will take place on Saturday, August 13th in a new venue – Campus Martius Park in Detroit. This venue offers the potential for a larger audience and greater visibility for Starr and the performers involved.
The Starr Summer Youth Festival is a chance for us to highlight the resilience of Detroit and the creative souls that grow there. Past performances have included dancers, singers, spoken word, marching bands, short films, and string ensembles, with an area to display visual art (sculptures, paintings, jewelry, etc.). We are looking forward to seeing more great performances on August 13!
The festival is expected to feature 50-60 different youth groups/organizations (with over 20 groups already registered), with performances and exhibitions all designed to celebrate the strengths of kids in Starr’s community.
This year’s event is supported by a special partnership with ARISE Detroit, a nonprofit which manages Detroit’s annual Neighborhood’s Day. ARISE Detroit is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Neighborhoods Day and is holding a one-off ‘Thank you Detroit’ event alongside the Art of Resilience Festival.
If you know of a performer or group in the Detroit area who would like to be involved in the Art of Resilience Festival, tell them to register here!
