Thousands of Michigan youth will volunteer to make an impact in their communities as part of Global Youth Service Day April 15-17.
In Detroit, Starr Commonwealth will address the issue of hunger and homelessness by creating bags full of much needed supplies for homeless men, women, and children across the city. The bags will have undergarments, snacks, hygiene kits, etc. in hopes of giving people some much needed relief on the streets, as well as hope for a brighter future.
The hope for this is that this will be a small boost in their day and inspire them to try and make changes, while giving the youth a chance to see what it can mean when you help and give of your time for those less fortunate.
The project will run on April 16th, 2016 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. Volunteers will work in shifts to either put bags together in the morning, or carpool to different area shelters and homeless “hot spots” in the city during the afternoon to pass out at least 200 or more bags to homeless people.
The project has at least 50 volunteers, and the Starr Detroit staff are always looking for more people, especially youth, to participate. Donations for clothes, socks, underwear, toothbrush kits, soaps, and snacks are being accepted and collected by the staff and youth during the week of April 11-15, 2016.
To get involved, please call Tenia Denard at (313) 794-4447 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Starr Detroit is located at 22400 W. 7 Mile Rd. Detroit, MI 48219. If you would like to drop off donations, please do so Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
